Saint Cajetan, born in 1480 in Vicenza, Italy, was a priest renowned for his deep faith and commitment to reforming the Church. He founded the Congregation of Clerics Regular, known as the Theatines, aiming to restore spiritual fervor among clergy and laity alike. His feast day is celebrated on August 7, the anniversary of his death in 1547.
Saint Cajetan is also recognized as the patron saint of job seekers and the unemployed. Life and Legacy of Saint Cajetan
After studying law at the University of Padua, Cajetan served as a diplomat for Pope Julius II. However, feeling a deeper call to serve God, he was ordained a priest at 36. He founded hospitals for the incurable and joined the Oratory of Divine Love, a group devoted to piety and charity. In 1524, he co-founded the Theatines to promote spiritual renewal within the Church.
During the Sack of Rome in 1527, Cajetan was captured and tortured but managed to escape. He continued his charitable works in Venice and Naples, establishing institutions to care for the poor and sick. His dedication to faith and service led to his canonization in 1671 by Pope Clement X.
