The Feast of the Holy Family was first celebrated in the 17th century as part of the Church’s emphasis on family life, eventually gaining wider recognition. Pope Leo XIII officially introduced it to the universal calendar in 1893, placing it within the context of the Christmas season.

This Feast is celebrated on the Sunday within the Octave of Christmas, reinforcing the message of Christ's birth as central to family life. It serves as a reminder of the Holy Family's unique role in salvation history and their exemplification of faithfulness to God’s will.
