History

The Life of Saint Nicholas

Born in the city of Patara in Lycia (modern-day Turkey) around 270 A.D., Nicholas was raised by his uncle after being orphaned as a child. He became known for his secret gift-giving, such as placing coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him, embodying the spirit of generosity.

In 1087, Nicholas's relics were translated to Bari, Italy, where they remain today. This event significantly increased his veneration in the West, leading to the widespread celebration of his feast day on December 6th.

Saint Nicholas was a man of great generosity and compassion, whose life continues to inspire acts of kindness and charity.
