Honoring a Great Reformer

Saint Pius V, who served as Pope from 1566 to 1572, is best known for implementing the reforms of the Council of Trent, particularly in the area of the liturgy. He established the Roman Missal, which standardized the celebration of the Mass and remains in use today in various forms.

His papacy was marked by a commitment to the purity of the faith and the promotion of the Catholic Church's teachings. By celebrating his feast, families are reminded of the importance of the liturgy in their spiritual lives and the role of the Church in guiding them.

History

The Life of Saint Pius V

Born Antonio Ghislieri in 1504, he became a Dominican friar and was known for his piety and dedication to the Church. He was elected Pope in a time of great turmoil and worked diligently to restore order and faith within the Church.

Saint Pius V is also remembered for excommunicating Queen Elizabeth I of England and for his efforts to promote the Catholic faith across Europe. His canonization in 1712 further solidified his legacy as a champion of the Church.

The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed.
