A Father's Prayer

O Lord, shape for me a son, one who possesses the strength to recognize his vulnerabilities and the courage to confront his fears. Let him be steadfast and proud even in honest failure, while remaining gentle and modest in times of triumph. Guide him, I beseech you, not along paths of comfort and ease, but through the trials and challenges that will forge his character. In these moments, teach him to stand firm against the storms of life; help him cultivate empathy for those who struggle. Create within him a heart that is clear and a vision that is lofty, a son who learns self-mastery before attempting to lead others, one who looks forward to the future but keeps the lessons of the past close. Once he embodies these qualities, grant him, I pray, a healthy sense of humor, allowing him to approach life with seriousness while never becoming overly serious about himself. Instill in him humility, so he may recall that true greatness lies in simplicity and that genuine strength is characterized by an open mind. Then, as his father, I will be able to voice that my life has not been in vain.
