A Prayer Before Mass
O Almighty and eternal God, I approach the sacrament of Your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I come as a sick person to the healer of life, as one who is impure to the wellspring of mercy, as an individual who is blind to the light of eternal radiance, and as a poor and destitute person to the Sovereign of heaven and earth. Therefore, I earnestly seek the fullness of Your boundless generosity, asking that You would grant healing for my weaknesses, cleansing for my impurities, illumination for my darkness, richness for my need, and covering for my nakedness, so that I may receive the Bread of Angels, the King of kings and Lord of lords, with the utmost reverence and humility, with true sorrow and devotion, with perfect purity and faith, as well as with a determined and focused intention that will benefit my soul’s salvation. I ask, Lord, for the grace to receive not just the sacrament of Your Body and Blood, but also the grace and strength of the sacrament. O most gracious God, help me to receive the Body of Your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, which He took from the Virgin Mary, deserving to be united with His mystical Body and counted among His members. O most loving Father, grant me the grace to behold forever Your beloved Son with His face finally unveiled, whom I now intend to receive under the sacramental veil here on earth.Amen.
