A Prayer For Our National Election
Lord God, today we recognize You not just as the ruler of each person, but as the sovereign over nations and governments. We are grateful for the chance we have to engage in political organization and for the assurance that our loyalty to our country does not betray our loyalty to You. We thank You for the divine law that our Founding Fathers acknowledged as superior to human statutes. This election year offers us the opportunity to fulfill our sacred duty, not only by casting our votes but also by encouraging others to do the same and to make informed choices. We pray, O Lord, that Your people may be stirred from complacency. Help them understand that while political involvement does not equate to salvation, their response to You compels them to be active in the public sphere. Awaken Your people to realize they are not a retreating sect but a vibrant community of faith called to renew the world around them. Let them recognize that the hands they raise in prayer are also the hands that cast votes; that the eyes studying Your Word are the same eyes that examine the ballot; and that their identity as Christians remains intact in the voting booth. Instill in Your people a commitment to justice, to uphold the sanctity of marriage and family, to honor the dignity of every human life, and to grasp that human rights initiate at the moment of life’s beginning and not a moment later. Today, we celebrate our citizenship in Your kingdom. May this encourage us to be even more dedicated to being faithful citizens on this earth. We ask this through Christ our Lord.Amen.
