A Prayer In Commemoration Of The Holy Sufferings Of Jesus Christ

devotional
The prayer

My Divine Savior, what did You become when, out of love for souls, You allowed Yourself to be tied to the pillar? Truly, the words of the Prophet were fulfilled, stating that You would be a wound from head to toe, unrecognizable! What disgrace You endured as they stripped You of Your clothes! What agony You suffered in that storm of blows! How abundantly did Your Most Precious Blood flow from Your torn veins! I realize that it was not just the injustice from the Roman governor or the brutality of the soldiers that caused Your suffering, but my own sins. O wretched sins, that have brought You so much pain! How hard-hearted I have been to continue offending You despite Your numerous sufferings for me! Yet from this moment onwards, I resolve to change. Bound to You in loyalty for all my days, I will strive to reconcile Your offended justice. By the pains You bore while tied to the pillar, by the lashes that tore Your innocent flesh, by the Blood You shed so freely, have mercy on my wretched soul; protect me today and always from the traps of the tempter; and when my time in this world comes to an end, guide me safely home to heaven with You.Amen.
