O Lord God, who for the salvation of humanity chose to dwell among us, to undergo the rite of circumcision, to face rejection from the Jewish people, to be betrayed with a kiss by Judas, to be bound and led to the slaughter like an innocent lamb, to be publicly exposed to Annas, Caiaphas, Pilate, and Herod, to suffer false accusations, to endure scourging and mockery, to be insulted and spat upon, crowned with thorns, beaten, struck with a reed, blindfolded, stripped of Your garments, nailed to the Cross, lifted high, numbered with the criminals, given gall and vinegar to drink, and pierced with a spear; I beseech You, O Lord, through these Your most sacred sufferings, on which I meditate unworthily, and by Your holy Cross and passion, rescue me from the torments of hell and grant that I may be brought to the same place as the penitent thief who was crucified alongside You, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever.
