A Prayer In Commemoration Of The Seven Words Spoken By Jesus On The Cross

traditional
The prayer

O God, come to my aid. R. Lord, make haste to assist me. V. Glory be to the Father, etc. R. As it was in the beginning, etc. The First Word Father, forgive them; for they do not realize what they are doing. O Jesus, who out of love for me endures suffering on the Cross to atone for my sins and opens Your holy mouth to plead for their forgiveness from the eternal justice of God, have mercy on all the faithful who are nearing death and on me; and at my last hour, through the merits of Your Most Precious Blood which was shed for our salvation, grant me a deep sorrow for my sins so that my soul may leave this world resting in Your boundless mercy. Let us pray Glory Be to the Father three times... Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. My God, I believe in You, I trust in You, I love You, and I regret having offended You by my sins. The Second Word Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in paradise. O Jesus, who for love of me suffers on the Cross, and who readily acknowledges the faith of the good thief during Your humiliation, promising him paradise, have compassion on all the faithful who are in their agony and upon me; and at the time of my death, through the merits of Your Most Precious Blood, instill in me a steadfast faith that remains unwavering against any temptation of the evil one, that I may attain the reward of Your holy paradise. Let us pray Glory Be to the Father three times... Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. My God, I believe in You, I trust in You, I love You, and I regret having offended You by my sins. The Third Word Behold your mother; behold your son. O Jesus, who for love of me hangs in pain on the Cross, and who, putting aside Your own suffering, entrusts to me Your holy Mother as a sign of Your love, enabling me to turn to You in my greatest needs with confidence, have compassion on all the faithful who are in their agony and upon me; and when my time comes, through the deep suffering of Your beloved Mother, grant my heart a firm trust in the infinite power of Your Most Precious Blood, allowing me to escape the eternal punishment I have incurred through my sins. Let us pray Glory Be to the Father three times... Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. My God, I believe in You, I trust in You, I love You, and I regret having offended You by my sins. The Fourth Word My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me? O Jesus, who for love of me suffers on the Cross and, upon enduring layer upon layer of suffering, experiences the profound distress of being abandoned by Your heavenly Father, have mercy on all the faithful who are in their agony and upon me; and when my life draws to a close, through the merits of Your Most Precious Blood, grant me the grace to endure all the pains and trials of my final moments with true patience so that by uniting my suffering with Yours, I may ultimately share in Your glory in paradise. Let us pray Glory Be to the Father three times... Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. My God, I believe in You, I trust in You, I love You, and I regret having offended You by my sins. The Fifth Word I thirst. O Jesus, who out of love for me suffers on the Cross, and who, despite experiencing countless insults and suffering, longs for more if it means saving all humanity, demonstrating that not even the torrent of Your Passion can quench the thirst of Your loving Heart, have compassion on all the faithful who are in their agony and upon me; and when I face my final moments, through the merits of Your Most Precious Blood, ignite within me a love so fervent that my heart may yearn to be united with You for all eternity. Let us pray Glory Be to the Father three times... Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. My God, I believe in You, I trust in You, I love You, and I regret having offended You by my sins. The Sixth Word It is finished. O Jesus, who out of love for me hangs in agony on the Cross and from that sacred perch declares that You have completed the work of our salvation, transforming humanity from children of wrath into children of God and heirs to heaven, have mercy on all the faithful who are in their agony and upon me; and when my time comes, through the merits of Your Most Precious Blood, free me completely from worldly attachments and self, helping me to offer You the sacrifice of my life in atonement for my sins. Let us pray Glory Be to the Father three times... Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. My God, I believe in You, I trust in You, I love You, and I regret having offended You by my sins. The Seventh Word Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit. O Jesus, who for the love of me hangs in agony on the Cross, and who, in completing this profound sacrifice, surrenders Your spirit to the will of Your eternal Father, bowing Your head and giving up Your life, have mercy on all the faithful who are in their agony and upon me; and when my final moment arrives, through the merits of Your Most Precious Blood, grant me a perfect submission to Your Divine will so that I may be prepared for life or death as You will, desiring nothing other than the fulfillment of Your holy will in me. Let us pray Glory Be to the Father three times... Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us. My God, I believe in You, I trust in You, I love You, and I regret having offended You by my sins. Prayer to the Sorrowful Mother Most holy Mother of Sorrows, by the deep agony you endured standing by the Cross during the hours of Jesus' suffering, please assist me, your sorrowful child, in my distress, so that through your intercession, I may be granted passage from my deathbed to your joyful company in paradise. V. From a sudden and unprepared death, R. Deliver me, O Lord. V. From the snares of the evil one, R. Deliver me, O Lord. V. From everlasting death, R. Deliver me, O Lord. Let us pray. O God, who in the bitter death of Your Son provided for our salvation both as an example and a refuge, grant us, we beseech You, that we may be worthy to receive the fruits of His great love in our time of peril and to partake in our Redeemer's glory. Through Christ our Lord.Amen.
