A Universal Prayer For After Communion
Lord, I believe in You: deepen my faith. I trust in You: fortify my trust. I love You: let my love for You grow each day. I regret my sins: intensify my sorrow for them. I honor You as my beginning, I yearn for You as my ultimate goal, I praise You as my constant supporter, and depend on You as my caring protector. Guide me with Your wisdom, correct me with Your justice, comfort me with Your mercy, shield me with Your might. I offer You, Lord, my thoughts to be directed towards You; my words that they may center on You; my actions to demonstrate my love for You; my sufferings to bear with the intent of glorifying You. I desire to fulfill Your wishes: in the manner You desire, simply because You ask. Lord, illuminate my mind, fortify my will, purify my heart, and sanctify me. Let me adore You, my Lord and my God, and perceive my true self: a pilgrim in this world, a Christian who is called to love and respect everyone I encounter, both those in authority over me and those under my care, my friends and my adversaries. Assist me in repenting of my past mistakes and resisting future temptations. Help me to rise above my human frailties and to become more robust in my faith. Aid me in overcoming anger with kindness, greed with generosity, and apathy with zeal. Assist me in forgetting myself and extending my reach to others. Grant me prudence in planning, courage in facing risks. Provide me patience in tribulation, and humility in times of success. Keep me, Lord, focused during prayer, moderate in my diet and drink, diligent in my work, and steadfast in my good intentions. May my conscience remain clear, my actions free of blame, my words pure, and my life well-organized. Protect me from my own weaknesses. Help me cherish Your love for me, adhere to Your commandments, and ultimately attain Your salvation. Teach me to understand that this world is transitory, that my true future lies in the happiness of heaven, that earthly life is brief, and that the afterlife is everlasting. Aid me in preparing for death with the proper respect for judgment, but with an even greater confidence in Your goodness. Guide me safely through death to the eternal joy of heaven. Grant this through Christ our Lord.Amen.
