Facing Life: A Prayer On Graduation Day

devotional
The prayer

LORD JESUS, You have instructed that Your followers should shine as a light for the world. Light spreads itself and banishes darkness. It bestows joy and hope, giving life. Assist me, Lord, in being a light in this world, that my existence may reflect Your message of love, hope, and joy. May I guide those who are in search of truth towards You. SALT You also stated, Lord Jesus, that Your disciples need to be the salt of the earth. Salt enhances the flavor of food, prevents decay, and serves as a healing agent. Lord, make me the salt that alleviates the dullness of daily life, stops the decay of hatred and greed from spreading, and offers compassionate healing to those suffering souls I meet. Help me, Lord, to be “worth my salt,” and imbue me with Your “saltiness,” so I do not become useless. LEAVEN You urged Your friends to be the leaven in the world. Without yeast, bread and celebratory cakes would lack vitality. Similarly, You have encouraged us to develop our talents. You expect us to utilize the gifts You have given us as leaven for this world. Teach me, Lord Jesus, that on my own I am insignificant, but in collaboration with the talents of others, I can uplift this world from mediocrity. May I serve as a bit of leaven in the Bread of Life, and a symbol of Your celebration in this life and in eternity. COMMITMENT On this commencement day, Lord, let this mark the beginning of my journey. In times of darkness, be my Light, so that I can share Your truth and message of love, hope, and joy. In times of dullness, Lord, be my Salt, enabling me to combat corruption and mediocrity that surrounds me. When I stumble or face setbacks, Lord, be my Leaven, so I may rise again and lift others towards the joy of Your Love. And thank You, Lord, for the years spent in school and for the talents I have received.Amen.
