Mother Teresa of Calcutta Novena - Day 2

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Memorare: Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen (mention request here…) Mother’s Devotion to Mary: Mother Teresa had several visions in 1947 in the months after she experienced her call within a call from Jesus to leave the relative comfort of her position as a teacher and to go directly into the slums of Calcutta to care for the sick and dying, the poorest of the poor. Mary was with Mother Teresa in those visions, encouraging her and supporting her. Mother Teresa knew she needed to totally rely on Mary in order to get closer to Jesus herself and to bring others to Jesus. She would say “Mary, Mother of Jesus, be a mother to me now.” She would also ask Mary to “Lend me your heart” so that she could love Jesus more perfectly through the most perfect human heart who has ever loved him. “Thank God our Lady was there to understand fully the thirst of Jesus for love. She must have straight away said, “I satiate Your thirst with my love and the suffering of my heart.” “ Prayer: Father, thank you for showing us through Mother Teresa how to make devotion to Mary a part of our daily life, both as we seek to deepen our love for Jesus and as we face the trials of everyday life. Through your Spirit, the Spouse of Mary, help us to understand how much Jesus wants us to love Mary and how we can imitate her in following Your Holy Will in trust and joy.
