Mother Teresa of Calcutta Novena - Day 7

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Memorare: Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen (mention request here…) Mother’s Devotion to the Virtue of Humility: Mother Teresa won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She received many other awards and honors both before and after that. She traveled around the world speaking to lay groups and Church officials and heads of state alike, even befriending Diana, the Princess of Wales. None of these ever affected her. She remained untouched by pride or any conviction that the awards were for her. She always accepted “for the work we are doing….as for me personally it means nothing. I want only to be a real Missionary of Charity like Our Lady was.” A priest who knew her well affirmed “[Her union with Jesus] gave her the freedom which made her independent of praise and blame. When great honors were poured on her all over the world it did not affect her in the least. She had abandoned everything to God, her whole being.” This was confirmed by her own words to another priest who asked how she handled all the admiration she received from even famous world leaders: “Father, Jesus has given me a very great grace and that is: the deepest conviction of my total nothingness. If He could find a poorer woman through whom to do his work, He would not choose me, but He would choose that woman” or, “Father it goes in here (pointing to her ears) and it comes out there; it goes right through me.” Another reaction to all the admiration of people: “It is a true crucifixion.” Prayer: Father, we need to acknowledge the truth. That you are the source of all things and that all we do is because of your grace. Help us cooperate with your Holy Spirit and become the person you want us to be, caring only if we are faithful to your Will and letting the world say what it may. Mother we ask you to let us remain humble and little, like you and like Mary. Amen In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.Amen.
