Prayer Before An Examination Of Conscience

Most compassionate God, Heavenly Father, trusting in Your endless goodness and mercy, I approach You with a childlike heart to admit my faults and seek Your pardon. You will not turn away a heart filled with contrition and humility. Please bless me and welcome me back into Your grace; I recognize my ingratitude toward You, yet I truly repent and loathe the wrongs I have committed, wishing to walk henceforth in the path of righteousness according to Your holy will. O Jesus, my Redeemer and faithful Shepherd, I have gone astray from the way You have laid before me; I did not follow Your example but chose to wander into prohibited areas. With a repentant heart, I plead to be welcomed back into the community of Your faithful. I desire to confess my sins with the same honesty as I would wish to do in my final moments. My Jesus, I turn to You with full trust for the strength to thoroughly examine my conscience. O Holy Spirit, come to me in Your mercy; illuminate my understanding and fortify my will so that I may recognize my sins, humbly confess them, and earnestly strive to improve my life. Mary, my Mother, pure Spouse of the Holy Spirit, refuge of all sinners, please assist me through your intercession. Holy angels and saints of God, intercede for me.Amen.
