Prayer For Choosing A State Of Life

O Lord, I humbly ask for Your Divine Light, that I may discern Your providential plans for my life. With a genuine longing for my salvation, I echo the plea of the young man from the Gospel: What must I do to attain eternal life? All paths lie before me; yet, uncertain of my course, I await Your guidance. I offer myself completely to You, unreservedly, with perfect submission. May it never be my intent, O Lord, to oppose the wisdom of Your design. Let me not, unfaithful to Your grace, attempt to impose my will upon the Creator's purpose. It is not fitting for a servant to dictate the manner of service to his master: impose upon me whatever commands You will. My fate rests in Your hands. I make no reservations, lest in my choice I stray from what You desire, for I cannot foresee the challenges that await if I rely solely on my own judgment. Speak, Lord, to my heart; speak to me as You did to the youthful Samuel: Speak, Lord; for Your servant listens. I lay myself before You and stand ready, if that is Your desire, to devote my life as a sacrifice to You, in whatever way You deem worthy of Your majesty. O my God, inspire my parents affections and direct their plans in accordance with Your wisdom. I truly wish to seek Your counsel, O Eternal Truth; grant that my parents may also submit to its guidance, faithfully and wholeheartedly.Amen.
