Prayer For The Octave Of Pentecost
[This is a family prayer to be recited for eight days following the Feast of Pentecost, or the Octave of Pentecost. While the Church recognizes only the Easter and Christmas Octaves after Vatican II, these prayers remain meaningful for devotion.] Family: Alleluia, the Spirit of the Lord fills all the earth. Let us worship Him, Alleluia. Father: Let us pray. Almighty God, on this day You have enlightened the hearts of Your faithful with the light of the Holy Spirit; grant that we may be guided in all things by the same Spirit and forever find joy in His comfort. Through Christ our Lord. Family: Alleluia, Alleluia. Father: Send forth Your Spirit, and creation will be renewed; and You will remake the face of the earth, Alleluia, Alleluia. Family: The Spirit of the Lord fills all of creation, Alleluia. Father: He who encompasses all creation understands every word spoken, Alleluia. Family: The love of God is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us, Alleluia. In light of our oldest child's Confirmation, we reaffirm the gifts of the Spirit as we gather at the altar in his room. He has crafted a shield illustrating moments from his patron's life, and on the altar rests a large wooden letter 'I' (for Isaac Jogues). Above it hovers a handmade white wooden Dove.
