Prayer For The Preservation Of The Faith

O my Redeemer, will there ever come that fearful moment, when only a handful of Christians remain, who truly embody the spirit of faith? That time when Your wrath will be stirred, and Your protective hand will be withdrawn from us? Have our sins and wicked ways earned Your justice to respond in severity, perhaps even this very day, upon Your children? O You, who are the Alpha and Omega of our faith, we implore You, in the anguish of our penitent and humbled hearts, not to let the radiant light of faith be quenched within us. Recall the mercies of times past, direct Your gaze of compassion upon the vineyard you have cultivated with Your own hand, watered by the labor of the Apostles, by the precious blood of countless Martyrs, and the tears of so many earnest penitents, and enriched by the prayers of many Confessors and pure Virgins. O divine Mediator, look upon those ardent souls who lift their hearts to You and incessantly pray for the preservation of this invaluable gift, your true faith. We beseech You, O God of justice, to delay the sentence of our condemnation, and to turn Your gaze from our transgressions and instead behold the precious Blood shed upon the Cross, which won our redemption and continually intercedes for us upon our altars. Oh, keep us anchored in the true Catholic and Roman faith. Let affliction plague us, troubles encumber us, misfortunes overwhelm us! But guard within us Your holy faith; for with this precious gift, we shall willingly bear every sorrow, and nothing will ever shake our joy. Conversely, without this great treasure of faith, our misery would be unimaginable and boundless! O good Jesus, author of our faith, maintain it untarnished within us; keep us secure in the vessel of Peter, loyal and obedient to his successor and Your Vicar here on earth, that the unity of the Holy Church may remain, holiness encouraged, the Holy See safeguarded in freedom, and the universal Church expanded to the salvation of souls. O Jesus, author of our faith, humble and convert the foes of Your Church; graciously grant true peace and harmony to all Christian rulers and leaders and to all believers; strengthen and sustain us in Your holy service, that we may live in You and die in You.
