Prayer To Abolish The Death Penalty

Compassionate God, You allow the rain to pour down on both the righteous and the unrighteous. Broaden and enrich our hearts so that we may love as You love, even those who have inflicted the most profound suffering by ending lives. In our nation, a cry for vengeance resounds, as we populate death rows and execute those who have killed in the name of justice, in the name of peace. You endured execution by the state, yet you did not allow hatred to prevail. Guide us to extend our support to victims of violence, that Your everlasting love may bring them healing. Holy Spirit, You empower us in our quest for justice. Assist us in our relentless efforts to abolish the death penalty and to renew the very core of our society, so that violence can cease.Amen.
