The Prayer Recommendation Of The Departing Soul

traditional
The prayer

Depart, O Christian soul, from this earthly life, in the name of God the Father Almighty, who shaped you; in the name of Jesus Christ, His Son, who bore your sufferings; in the name of the Holy Spirit, who descended upon you; in the name of the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God; in the name of St. Joseph, her pure spouse; in the name of the Angels and Archangels; in the name of the Thrones and Dominions; in the name of the Principalities and Powers; in the name of the heavenly Hosts, Cherubim and Seraphim; in the name of the Patriarchs and Prophets; in the name of the holy Apostles and Evangelists; in the name of the holy Martyrs and Confessors; in the name of the holy Monks and Hermits; in the name of all the holy Virgins and Saints: may they guide you today in peace and bring you to your eternal home in holy Sion. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. O merciful and kind God, You who, in Your abundant mercy, forgive the sins of those who repent and graciously wipe away the guilt of their transgressions, look kindly upon this servant (handmaid) N.____ and grant them full absolution from all sins. With a heart full of contrition, they earnestly seek this from You. Renew, O merciful Father, whatever has been marred in them by human weakness or the deceit of the enemy: unite them to the body of the Church as a member of redemption. Have compassion, Lord, on their sighs and tears; accept them, who has no hope other than in Your mercy, into the sacrament of Your reconciliation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. I entrust you, dear Brother (Sister), to Almighty God, and hand you over to His care, who created you, so that when you have paid the debt of humanity through death, you may return to your Maker, who formed you from the earth. When your soul departs from your body, may the radiant multitude of angels welcome you; may the council of the apostles receive you; may the victorious army of glorious martyrs greet you; may the noble company of confessors in their white robes surround you; may the choir of joyful virgins greet you: and may you find blessed repose in the bosom of the patriarchs. May St. Joseph, the most gentle Patron of the dying, provide you with great hope. May Mary, the holy Mother of God, cast her merciful gaze upon you. May Jesus Christ present Himself to you with a kind and joyful countenance, and grant you a place among those who stand before Him forever. May you be free from all that faces darkness and punishment, from all torment. May the wicked enemy and his evil spirits be driven away, tremble at your presence in the company of angels, and flee from you into the abyss of eternal night. Let God arise, and let His enemies scatter, let those who despise Him flee from Him; may they dissipate like smoke; as wax melts before fire, so let sinners perish in His sight; but may the righteous rejoice and be glad in His presence. May all the legions of Hell be confounded and put to shame; may none of Satan's ministers stand in your way. May Christ, who was crucified for you, deliver you from torment. May He free you from eternal death, who chose to die for you. May Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, place you among the verdant pastures of His Paradise; may He, the true Shepherd, recognize you as one of His flock. May He absolve you from all sins and place you at His right hand in the assembly of His elect. May you gaze upon your Redeemer face to face and in His presence, behold with joy the clearest Truth. And may you be gathered among the blessed, enjoying the sweetness of contemplating your God forever. Amen. Receive, Lord, Your servant (handmaid) into the place of salvation, which they hope to attain through Your mercy. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) from all dangers of Hell and from all suffering and tribulation. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver Enoch and Elias from the common death of the world. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver Abraham from Chaldea. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver Job from his afflictions. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver Isaac from sacrifice. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver Lot from Sodom's flames. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver Moses from Pharaoh's grip. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant as You did deliver the three children from the fiery furnace. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver Susanna from false accusations. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver David from Saul and Goliath. R. Amen. Deliver, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) as You did deliver Peter and Paul from prison. R. Amen. And as You did deliver the blessed virgin and martyr, Saint Thecla, from her cruel torments, so graciously deliver this soul and bring them to Your Heavenly joys. R. Amen. We present to You, Lord, the soul of Your servant (handmaid) N.____, and we implore You, Lord Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, that as in mercy to him (her) You became man, so now graciously admit him (her) to the bosom of Your patriarchs. Remember, Lord, he (she) is Your creature fashioned not by false gods, but by You, the only true and living God; for there is no other like You, and none can match Your works. Let their soul rejoice in Your presence, and recall not their previous sins and failings, which they endured due to the struggles of passion and the frailties of their nature. For although they have sinned, they have always held firm to their belief in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; they have shown zeal for Your honor and faithfully worshiped You as their God and Creator of all. Do not remember, Lord, we beseech You, the sins of their youth and ignorance; but in accordance with Your vast mercy, remember them in Your heavenly glory. Let the heavens open to them, and may the angels rejoice with them. Let the archangel St. Michael, whom You appointed as chief of the heavenly host, guide them. Let the holy angels come to meet them and carry them to the heavenly Jerusalem. Let blessed Peter, the apostle, to whom You bestowed the keys of Heaven, welcome them. Let St. Paul, the apostle, who was chosen as a vessel, assist them. Let St. John, the beloved disciple, to whom the secrets of Heaven were revealed, intercede for them. Let all the holy apostles who received from Jesus Christ the authority to bind and loose pray for them. Let all saints and chosen ones of God, who underwent suffering for Christ in this life, intercede for them; that freed from the prison of their body, they may enter the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who with You and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, forever and ever. Amen. Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary: May Mary, the most merciful Virgin Mother of God, compassionate comforter of those who grieve, commend to her Son the soul of His servant (handmaid), that through her maternal intercession, they may conquer the fear of death and, following her as guide, joyfully come to their long-desired home in the heavenly homeland. R. Amen. Prayer to St. Joseph: To you I turn, St. Joseph, Patron of the dying; to you, who witnessed the blessed death of Jesus and Mary, I earnestly recommend the soul of this servant (handmaid) in their final struggles, that they may be delivered by your protection from the traps of the devil and from eternal death, and may attain everlasting joy. Through Christ our Lord. R.Amen.
