Thirty Day Prayer To The Blessed Virgin Mary

novena
The prayer

As we prayerfully repeat this devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary over a span of thirty days, we earnestly hope to see our petitions fulfilled. This prayer is particularly recommended as a daily devotion during Lent, as well as on every Friday throughout the year. O ever-glorious and blessed Mary, Queen of Virgins, Mother of Mercy, source of hope and solace for the lost and downtrodden, through the sorrowful sword that pierced your compassionate heart, when your beloved Son, Christ Jesus, our Lord, endured suffering and disgrace upon the cross; through the deep love and pure affection He held for you, sharing in your sorrow, at the moment He entrusted you to the care of His devoted disciple, St. John; I implore you to take compassion, on my needs and struggles; have mercy on my worries and concerns; provide me comfort and support in all my ailments and tribulations, of whatever nature. You are the Mother of Mercies, the gentle comforter and sole refuge for the needy and the orphan, for the sorrowful and distressed. Look kindly, therefore, on a wretched, helpless child of Eve, and heed my prayer; for, in fair retribution for my sins, I find myself burdened with many trials, trapped in deep anguish of spirit; where else can I seek a more secure refuge, O beloved Mother of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, than beneath the shelter of your nurturing protection? So, turn your compassionate ear toward my humble and sincere request. I make this appeal, through the depths of mercy of your cherished Son; through that love and humility to which He embraced our humanity, when, in submission to the divine Will, you gave your consent, and whom, after nine months, you brought forth from the sacred confines of your womb, to bless the world with His presence. I seek your intercession, through the agonizing distress that overwhelmed your beloved Son, our dear Savior, on the Mount of Olives, when He pleaded with His eternal Father to take away—if feasible—the bitter cup of His impending passion. I ask this, through His thrice-repeated prayers in the garden, from which, later, you accompanied Him, filled with sorrow and tears, to the tragic scene of His death and suffering. I plead with you, through the wounds and bruises of His innocent flesh, inflicted by the cords and whips that bound and lashed Him, as He was stripped of His seamless robe, for which His executioners cast lots. I appeal, through the mockery and humiliations He endured; the false accusations and unjust sentence that condemned Him to die, which He bore with boundless patience. I implore you, through His bitter tears and bloody sweat; his silence and acceptance; his sorrow and grief of heart. I ask through the blood that flowed the royal and Sacred Head, when struck by the reed scepter and crowned with thorns. I plead through the agonizing tortures He experienced, when His hands and feet were nailed to the cross. I ask you, through His intense thirst, and the bitter drink of vinegar and gall. I appeal through His abandonment on the cross, for He cried out, "My God! My God! Why have You forsaken me?" I ask it, through His mercy extended to the good thief, and through His entrusting the spirit of His precious soul to the hands of His eternal Father before He breathed His last, declaring, "It is completed." I seek it, through the blood mingled with water that flowed from His Sacred Side, when pierced by a lance, from which a stream of grace and mercy has been extended to us. I ask through His holy life, bitter passion, and shameful death on the cross, which caused creation itself to tremble: the breaking of rocks, the tearing of the Temple veil, the earthquake, and the darkening of sun and moon. I ask through His descent into hell, where He met the Saints of old, and liberated those held captive. I ask through His glorious triumph over death, when He rose on the third day, and through the joy that His presence brought to you, His blessed Mother, His Apostles, and the rest of His Disciples; when in your presence and theirs, He miraculously ascended into heaven. I implore through the grace of the Holy Spirit, given to the hearts of His Disciples, when He descended upon them in tongues of flame, enkindling their zeal for the conversion of the world, as they went forth to spread the gospel. I appeal through the dreadful return of your Son to the world on the last day, when He will judge the living and the dead, and the earth will be purified by fire. I ask through the compassion you received from Him in life, and the joy you felt at your assumption into heaven, where you are forever wrapped the sweet contemplation of His divine glories. O glorious and ever-blessed Virgin! Comfort the heart of your supplicant, by granting me, (Mention your prayer intention here...) And as I trust that my Divine Savior honors you as His beloved Mother, refusing you nothing, because you never ask anything contrary to His glory, let me quickly witness the power of your intercession, in accordance with your profound maternal love, and His affectionate loving heart, who graciously fulfills the supplications and satisfies the desires of all who love and respect Him. Therefore, O most blessed Virgin, apart from my current request, and whatever else I may need, obtain for me also from your dear Son, our Lord and God, a living faith, steadfast hope, pure love, genuine contrition of heart, true tears of remorse, sincere confession, just atonement, abstinence from sin, a love of God and my neighbor, scorn for worldly pursuits, the strength to endure offenses and humiliations, even, if needed, an ignoble death, in love of your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Moreover, I ask of you, o sacred Mother of God, perseverance in good endeavors, fidelity to good resolutions, self-discipline, a holy life, and at my final moments, a strong and sincere repentance, accompanied by such a living and attentive awareness, that shall enable me to worthily receive the last Sacrament of the Church, and depart in your friendship and favor. Finally, I beseech you, through your Son, for the souls of my parents, brothers, relatives, and benefactors, both living and deceased, everlasting life, from the sole Giver of all good gifts, our Lord God Almighty, to Whom belongs all glory now and forever.Amen.
