Antoni Świadek

Antoni Świadek was born on February 20, 1914, in the small village of Młynik in Poland. Raised in a devout Catholic family, he developed a profound spiritual life from an early age. He attended a local seminary, where his passion for theological studies and commitment to serving God flourished. After ordination on June 27, 1937, he began his priestly ministry in several parishes, tirelessly working to enrich the spiritual lives of his parishioners.

As World War II engulfed Europe, Poland suffered greatly under the Nazi occupation. Fr. Antoni, deeply aware of the plight of his fellow countrymen, spent his days providing spiritual solace and practical aid. His unwavering faith inspired his community to remain hopeful in the face of adversity. He not only celebrated Mass, but also organized care for the needy and worked to protect the vulnerable, including Jewish families who were fleeing persecution.

On July 15, 1942, Fr. Antoni was arrested by the Gestapo for his outspoken opposition to the Nazi regime and his refusal to compromise his principles. He was imprisoned and tortured, yet his spirit remained unbroken. He used his time in captivity to comfort fellow prisoners, offering them prayers and encouraging them in their faith. Fr. Antoni’s abounding faith, in the face of escalating persecution, shone brightly, reminding many of God's enduring presence.

Fr. Antoni was ultimately executed on May 18, 1943, in the infamous concentration camp at Auschwitz. His martyrdom was a powerful testament to his loyalty to Christ and the Church, as he willingly sacrificed his life rather than deny his beliefs or abandon his community. His last words reportedly reflected his compassionate spirit, as he offered forgiveness to his captors and expressed hope for his fellow prisoners.
