Bernard of Quintavalle

Bernard of Quintavalle was born in the late 12th century, likely in the region of Assisi, Italy. He came from a wealthy family, but deep within him, a longing for a more profound spiritual life stirred. This desire led him to dispose of his worldly possessions, embracing a life of simplicity and service, which was a radical departure from the norms of his time.

His encounter with St. Francis of Assisi in 1208 proved to be a pivotal moment in his life. At this time, Francis had just received a divine call to rebuild the Church. Bernard was immediately drawn to Francis's vision and ideals, which emphasized poverty, humility, and a deep connection to the Gospel. Recognizing Francis as a holy man, Bernard chose to follow him, becoming one of the first members of the Franciscan Order.
