Carlo Bascapè

Carlo Bascapè was born on June 24, 1510, in the northern Italian town of Vigevano. He grew up in a devout Christian family, which instilled in him a strong sense of faith from an early age. Carlo's education and training in theology laid the groundwork for a lifetime of dedicated service to the Church. He pursued higher education at the University of Pavia, where he studied under distinguished professors, deepening his knowledge of theology, philosophy, and the classical arts.

In 1541, he was ordained to the priesthood, and soon after, he became involved in various charitable works. His commitment to education and the spiritual well-being of his community was evident in his efforts to establish schools and promote literacy among the youth. Understanding the significance of education in faith formation, Carlo actively sought to empower the next generation through learning.

Bascapè's pastoral leadership came to the fore when he was appointed as Bishop of Pavia in 1560. His tenure was marked by courageous efforts to address the challenges posed by the Protestant Reformation. His feast day is celebrated on October 6, reminding the Church of the importance of leadership and the nurturing of faith through education.
