Catald

Catald, an Irish monk, lived during the 7th century and is best known for his missionary work in Italy. His early life remains a mystery, but it's believed he was born in Ireland, possibly in the province of Munster. Like many monks of his time, Catald was drawn to a life dedicated to prayer and contemplation, ultimately feeling the call to spread the Gospel beyond his homeland.

After receiving a vision urging him to travel, Catald set sail for Italy. He arrived in the region of Apulia, where he settled in the town of Turi. There, he founded a monastery that became a center for spiritual life and education. The community he established was not only for prayer but also focused on service to the local population. Catald’s commitment to his monastic life and his dedication to the well-being of others reflected the ideals of community and charity that were vital to the monastic experience.
