Estephan El Douaihy

St. Estephan El Douaihy was born in 1630 in the town of Douaihy in Lebanon. He hailed from a prominent Maronite family, and his early exposure to the spiritual traditions of the Maronite Church instilled in him a deep love for God and the Church. Estephan pursued his education at the Maronite school in Rome and was later ordained a priest on March 24, 1653. His extensive studies and profound understanding of theology laid the groundwork for his future contributions to the Maronite community.

In 1670, Estephan was appointed Bishop of Tripoli, where he became known for his pastoral care and ability to mediate conflicts. His leadership qualities shone through as he navigated the complexities of politics and religion in a turbulent era. Estephan was a man of strong convictions and worked tirelessly to promote the Maronite Church's traditions and values in the face of external pressures. His pastoral visits to the villages and communities he served were marked by a spirit of compassion and commitment to educating the faithful.

His most significant achievement came in 1683 when Estephan was elected as the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch.
