Euphrasie de l'Immaculée Conception, born on July 17, 1826, in France, emerged in a period marked by significant social and religious upheaval. Descended from a devout family, she was influenced by her parents’ deep faith and dedication to the Catholic Church. From an early age, Euphrasie felt drawn to the spiritual life and was inspired by the example of the Virgin Mary.

At the age of 15, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, founded by Saint Mary Euphrasia Pelletier. Though the community focused on the education and rehabilitation of young women, Euphrasie's role soon expanded into leadership. In 1855, she was appointed the first Superior General of the new congregation, and she dedicated her life to the service of abandoned or lost women and girls, advocating for their dignity and their place in society.

Under her guidance, the congregation experienced rapid growth. Euphrasie established numerous houses throughout France and beyond, including missions in Canada, Poland, and Indonesia. Her commitment to educational reforms and social advocacy was evident as she worked tirelessly to ensure that the religious sisters were equipped to address the needs of the marginalized. She believed that education was instrumental in lifting individuals out of poverty and despair.

Euphrasie faced various challenges along the way, including the anti-Catholic sentiments prevailing during the political changes in France. However, her faith and resilience proved unwavering. She emphasized the importance of prayer, community life, and trust in God, which became hallmarks of her spiritual leadership.

In later years, Euphrasie dedicated her time to furthering the congregation’s mission and was revered for her wisdom and guidance. She passed away on July 21, 1892, in Angers, France. Her legacy endures, as the Sisters of the Good Shepherd continue their work with women and children in need around the world.

Euphrasie de l'Immaculée Conception was canonized by Pope Pius XI on 27 May 1934. She is remembered not only for her remarkable leadership and contributions to the Church but also for her deep compassion and commitment to those on the margins of society.
