Grégoire d'Ohrid

Grégoire d'Ohrid, also known as Saint Gregory of Ohrid, was a prominent bishop and theologian who played a significant role in the early Christian church in the region of Ohrid, an area that is now part of modern-day North Macedonia. Little is known about his early life, but he is believed to have been born in the 9th century, during a time when Christianity was spreading throughout the Slavic regions of the Balkans.

As a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who were instrumental in the Christianization of the Slavs, Grégoire was deeply influenced by their teachings. He embraced their mission and became an advocate for Christian education and literacy, emphasizing the use of the Slavic language in liturgy and scripture. His dedication to this cause established him as a key figure in the development of the Slavic Orthodox Church.

Grégoire’s episcopal ministry centered on the city of Ohrid, where he worked tirelessly to strengthen the faith of his community.
