Honorius

Honorius was born in the early 7th century in the region that is today known as Italy. He became a dedicated member of the Gregorian mission, a pivotal effort initiated by Pope Gregory the Great to spread Christianity in England. The mission aimed to bring the Christian faith to the Anglo-Saxons, who were still largely pagan at that time. Honorius’s journey began under the leadership of Augustine of Canterbury, the first Archbishop of Canterbury, who was sent by Pope Gregory.

After Augustine’s death, Honorius was appointed as the second Archbishop of Canterbury around 634 AD. His leadership came at a crucial moment, as the Christian community in England faced numerous challenges. As Archbishop, Honorius worked tirelessly not only to foster the growing faith among the Anglo-Saxons but also to unify the various Christian customs that were emerging in the region.
