Hugh Canefro was born in the late 12th century in the town of Cortona, Italy. From a young age, he exhibited a deep devotion to God, often spending long hours in prayer and contemplation. Hugh took his vows with great seriousness, dedicating himself to a life of asceticism and communal living in a hermitage near his hometown.
