Jeanne-Marie Guerguin

Jeanne-Marie Guerguin was born in France in the late 19th century, at a time when the nation was experiencing profound social change and the complexities of modernity. Entering the Congregation of Notre-Dame de Namur, she became a dedicated nun, deeply committed to education and missionary work.

As a member of her congregation, Jeanne-Marie was sent to the mission fields of the Belgian Congo in 1899. She and her fellow sisters faced tremendous challenges as they sought to bring education and the Gospel to the local population. The environment was often hostile, and the sisters had to navigate not only the difficulties of a foreign land but also the prevalent threats that colonial tensions brought. Yet, Jeanne-Marie's spirit remained unbroken, and she poured her heart into her work.

Her vocation was characterized by an overflowing love and a desire to uplift those marginalized by society. She devoted herself to teaching children and supporting young women, providing them with both an education and a foundation for faith.
