Justus

Justus, a dedicated missionary and the second Archbishop of Canterbury, played a crucial role in spreading Christianity in England during the 7th century. Born in the late 6th or early 7th century in Italy, Justus became a part of the Benedictine monastic tradition and was closely associated with St. Augustine of Canterbury, who had been sent by Pope Gregory the Great to convert the Anglo-Saxons.

In 601, Justus traveled with Augustine to England, arriving in a land that was still steeped in paganism. His knowledge of the Christian faith and his pastoral skills quickly made him an invaluable member of Augustine’s mission. After Augustine’s elevation to Archbishop, Justus assisted him in the challenging task of planting the seeds of Christianity amidst various tribal customs and beliefs.

When Augustine died in 604, Justus was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, becoming a central figure in the growing Christian community. His tenure was marked by a deep commitment to the faith and a focus on establishing a structured Church.
