Maria degli Angeli

Maria degli Angeli, also known as Maria of the Angels, was born in 1540 in the Italian city of Montepulciano. From a young age, she felt a profound calling to serve God, influenced by the religious fervor of her family and the Spirit of the Renaissance that enveloped Italy during that time. Despite the societal pressures of marriage and domestic life, she chose instead to devote herself to a religious vocation.

At the age of 15, she joined the Franciscan Third Order, a move that allowed her to live a life of prayer and service while remaining in the world. Her love for God and neighbor was evident, and soon her character and commitment attracted others. She became the foundress of the Capuchin Sisters of the Mother of God in 1575, an order dedicated to the ideals of poverty and humility exemplified by St. Francis of Assisi. Maria's leadership was marked by her profound humility, compassion, and dedication.
