Pedro de la Asunción

Pedro de la Asunción was born around 1591 in Spain, during a time when the Catholic Church was fervently engaged in missionary work around the globe. Growing up in a devout family, he developed a strong sense of faith early on, which would guide him throughout his life. His desire to serve God and spread the Christian message led him to pursue a vocation as a missionary, and he joined the Order of Friars Minor, commonly known as the Franciscans.

In 1618, Pedro set sail for the New World, arriving in present-day Peru. The region was marked by cultural richness yet also faced significant challenges, including the spiritual needs of the indigenous populations. Pedro devoted himself to learning the local languages, immersing himself in the culture, and understanding the lifestyle of the people he was to serve.
