Peter Chanel was born on July 12, 1803, in the small village of Cuet, France. From a young age, he exhibited a deep faith and a strong desire to serve God. In 1831, Chanel embarked on a mission to the islands of the South Pacific, specifically to Futuna, a remote island that was largely un-Christianized at the time. Arriving in the area, he faced immense challenges, including the language barrier, cultural differences, and hostility from local chieftains. Peter began to educate the local villagers about Christianity, emphasizing the love of God and the promise of eternal life.
