Pharaildis

Pharaildis was born in the 7th century in the region now known as Flanders, Belgium. Coming from a noble family, her upbringing emphasized the importance of faith and service. From a young age, Pharaildis displayed a deep piety, often dedicating her time to prayer and acts of charity. Her family's wealth afforded her opportunities, but she chose to live a life of humility and simplicity, embodying the teachings of Christ.

As she reached adulthood, Pharaildis felt a strong call to serve God beyond her family's expectations. She rejected proposals for marriage, opting instead to devote her life entirely to the service of others. With a few companions who shared her vision, she founded a convent in Ghent, which became a center of learning and spirituality. Under her guidance, the community thrived, drawing many to a life of prayer and service.

Pharaildis often ventured into the city to care for those in need, offering not just material assistance but also spiritual guidance.
