Pietro Berno

Pietro Berno was born on May 10, 1679, in the picturesque village of Caux, located in Switzerland. He grew up in a deeply Christian household, receiving a solid foundation in the teachings of the Catholic faith. From an early age, Pietro felt a strong call to the priesthood and to serve God’s people. His family supported his vocation, and he entered the seminary to study for the priesthood, where his dedication and enthusiasm stood out among his peers.

After his ordination, Berno became increasingly aware of the need for missionary work, particularly in areas where people had not yet encountered the Gospel. This desire led him to join the missionary society founded by the Capuchin friars. He was filled with zeal and willing to endure hardships for the sake of his faith and the souls of others. In 1703, he embarked on a momentous journey that would take him to India, where he would devote himself to evangelization.

Throughout his missionary career in India, Berno faced numerous challenges. The region was marked by diverse cultures and languages, and he often found it difficult to communicate the message of Christ. Yet, his unwavering faith and determination helped him to overcome these barriers. He mastered several languages, enabling him to connect with various communities. Berno passed away on July 25, 1747, in his hometown of Caux.
