Remigius of Rouen

Saint Remigius of Rouen, also known as Saint Rémi, was born around the year 841 in the region of Neustria, which later became part of modern France. He belonged to a prominent family that had a strong connection to the church, and from a young age, he felt a calling to serve God. After receiving a solid education, he entered the clergy and was eventually ordained as a priest. His commitment to a devout life and compassionate leadership led him to be named the Archbishop of Rouen.

Remigius became the archbishop at a critical time in the church's history. The 9th century was marked by political tumult and a frequent struggle against the Viking invasions that impacted much of northern France.
