Saint Simon de Valois

Saint Simon de Valois was born around 1280 in the French region of Valois, a member of a noble family. Despite the comforts and privileges of his upbringing, Simon felt a profound calling to serve God and the community. From a young age, he was imbued with a deep sense of piety and compassion, traits that would shape his life's purpose.

In his teenage years, Simon became increasingly drawn to the monastic life. He sought a deeper relationship with God, which led him to join the Order of the preaching friars, known as the Dominicans, around 1300. The choice to embrace this path was significant; it reflected his desire to abandon worldly wealth and status for a life devoted to prayer and the care of souls.

As a member of the Dominican Order, Simon demonstrated remarkable zeal for preaching and catechesis. He traveled extensively throughout France and beyond, sharing the Gospel and engaging in various charitable works. His life was marked by simplicity and humility, as he lived among the poor and tended to the sick, embodying the Dominican commitment to service and community outreach.

Simon’s dedication was not without challenges. His commitment to living out his faith often drew criticism and opposition from both secular and ecclesiastical authorities.
