Simplicius

Saint Simplicius, the 48th pope of the Roman Catholic Church, served during a critical time in the early Church between 468 and 483 AD. He was born in Rome and was presumably of Italian descent, though little is known about his early life or education. His papacy came at a time when the Church was navigating external pressures from the waning Roman Empire, including various heretical movements and political strife.

Ascending to the papacy following the death of Pope Hilarius, Simplicius faced significant challenges, including the aftermath of the acts of the Robber Council of Ephesus, which had sought to undermine the authority of the Church. He worked diligently to stabilize and unify the Church, emphasizing the importance of orthodoxy and adherence to the teachings of Christ.
