Sœur de Jésus Crucifié, born as Marie de la Croix in 1820 in the small French town of Thuir, was deeply shaped by her familial background of faith. Her parents, devoted Catholics, instilled in her a love for God from an early age. Inspired by a fervent spiritual life, Marie felt a distinct call to embrace the religious life, dedicating herself to God and the service of others.

In 1841, she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, where she took the name Sœur de Jésus Crucifié. Her life within the congregation was marked by both fervent faith and a profound dedication to her community, particularly in education and care for the marginalized. Through her work, she embodied the virtues of compassion and humility, serving as an example of Christ's love to those around her.

Sœur de Jésus Crucifié's ministry extended to various educational endeavors, where she tirelessly taught children and provided a nurturing environment for spiritual growth. She understood the importance of nurturing both the minds and hearts of her students, emphasizing the integration of faith and knowledge. Sœur de Jésus Crucifié passed away on July 17, 1897, leaving behind a legacy of faith, dedication, and a profoundly loving approach to education and service. Her life continues to inspire many to live out their faith actively and joyfully in service to others, highlighting the power of love and compassion in the Christian life.

In 1970, she was beatified by Pope Paul VI, recognizing her virtuous life and work in fostering a closer relationship with God among the faithful. Her feast day, celebrated on July 17, serves as a reminder of her enduring impact on the Church and the lives of all those she touched through her selfless service.
