Tommaso Maria Fusco

Tommaso Maria Fusco was born on March 1, 1831, in the small town of Falciano del Massico, Italy. From a young age, he exhibited a deep sense of compassion and a desire to serve those in need. His family background was humble, and this contributed to his understanding of the struggles faced by the poor and marginalized in society. Encouraged by his parents, he engaged in acts of charity, giving him a glimpse of the joy that comes from helping others.

After discerning his call to the priesthood, Tommaso studied at the seminary and was ordained a priest in 1855. He dedicated his life to pastoral work in the Diocese of Capua, where he became known for his deep spirituality and heartfelt commitment to his congregation. In 1860, moved by the vision of a community devoted to the education and support of orphans and youths from impoverished families, he founded the Congregation of the Misericordia. Under his guidance, the congregation grew rapidly, inspiring others to join his mission of service and love.

Tommaso's dedication was not without challenges. As he worked tirelessly to uplift the suffering, he faced financial hardships and opposition from those who felt threatened by his work. Yet, through prayer and trust in God, he persevered, believing that each child he helped was a reflection of Christ's love.
