Vicente Sicluna Hernández

Vicente Sicluna Hernández was born on July 22, 1895, in the small town of Siculiana, in Sicily, Italy. Growing up in a devout family, he was deeply influenced by the teachings of the Church and demonstrated a strong commitment to his faith from an early age. His early life was marked by joy and simplicity, instilling in him a love for the Gospel that would guide his vocation.

Feeling a calling to serve the Church, Vicente entered the seminary at a young age, where he excelled in his studies and showed a deep understanding of theology. After being ordained a priest in 1918, he dedicated himself to pastoral work, always focused on the spiritual and social wellbeing of his community. He was appointed to various parishes throughout Sicily, where he became known for his compassionate approach to ministry and his dedication to the needy.

In 1936, Vicente became the parish priest of a particularly struggling neighborhood. There, he encountered many challenges, including widespread poverty and social unrest. Despite these challenges, he remained a steadfast presence, offering solace and support to families in distress. His kindness and wisdom granted him the reputation of a gentle shepherd, one who listened and guided without judgment.
