Today’s reflection

Sometimes, our hearts carry burdens that words cannot fully express. We may not notice how heavy they have become until we try to rest... only to find our minds still racing. In moments like these, it's easy to feel disconnected... both from ourselves and from God.
In today's first reading, we're reminded of those who came before us—prophets who searched and investigated the message of grace meant for us. Their longing, their anticipation, opens a window into the patience of faith. The prophets served not themselves, but those yet to come. And I wonder... how often do we consider the legacy of what we build today?
The message is clear: "Set your hopes completely on the grace to be brought to you." It's an invitation to live not for fleeting desires, but to anchor our lives in something eternal, something holy. This call to holiness, to be set apart, can feel daunting. Yet... it is here, in this holiness, that true freedom lies. Freedom to move beyond our former ignorance, to step into new light.
In the Gospel, Peter's words echo the sacrifices of discipleship: "We have given up everything and followed you." The response from Jesus is both challenging and reassuring. He promises that whatever is given up for His sake will return a hundredfold, both now and in the age to come. But with these blessings come persecutions... a reminder that following Christ is a path embedded with both joy and struggle.
Think of the quiet strength it takes to persevere... to live each day in trust, even when the way seems unclear. We may not be asked to leave everything behind, like the apostles, yet we are called to an inner surrender—a yielding of our hearts and comforts to God's greater purpose.
With these readings, we're invited to reflect on our own journeys. What have we placed on the altar of our lives? What holds us back from being holy, as He is holy? These are questions that tenderly probe our hearts, urging us to consider the true desires that drive us.
And in this quiet reflection, we might find a small place today to let go... to trust a little more deeply in the abundance promised. Perhaps it's a moment of forgiveness, an act of kindness, or simply the awareness that our sacrifices, though hidden, are seen and cherished by God.
As we carry these reflections into our day, may we find peace in knowing we are deeply loved and never truly alone. Let us strive to live with grace, allowing holiness to gently unfold in every corner of our lives. Amen.
