Today’s reflection

There are moments in life when we find ourselves standing at the foot of a mountain... You know, those emotional mountains that seem impossible to climb. Perhaps it’s a season of uncertainty... a time when future steps seem obscured by mist. We stand there, looking up, and feel so small against the vastness that looms before us.
These mountains can be many things — quiet worries we carry in our hearts, the heaviness of unspoken grief, or a longing for peace that seems just out of reach. We wait and wonder... where is God in all of this? And how do we move forward?
This question, though ancient, remains alive in our souls. Today’s readings gently invite us to walk with Moses, who ascended Mount Sinai in the early morning light, feeling perhaps a familiar weight of waiting and expectation. There, in the stillness, God met him... His presence both simple and awe-filled.
Picture it... as the Lord descends in a cloud, He doesn’t bring thunder or judgment first, but words of mercy and grace. "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity." Imagine standing in that holy moment, hearing those words spill out over the stones... and over a weary heart.
Moses responds with worship, humbly asking for God’s presence among a stubborn people. There is an honest acknowledgment of their "stiff-necked" ways, their failings... yet, an appeal to God’s boundless compassion.
In our lives, how often do we forget that we too can ask for God to walk beside us, even when we know we’ve stumbled? To invite Him into our messiness, trusting His mercy above our mistakes.
The second reading extends this theme of grace — a call to embrace one another, to live in peace, allowing the God of love and peace to dwell amongst us. It speaks of the fellowship... a sacred community built on encouragement and unity.
In a world that feels so divided, what a tender invitation to love deeply and forgive freely, greeting each other with kindness. Imagine if we dared to live into this liberating call...
And in the Gospel, that beautiful verse... God so loved the world. These words have become so familiar, haven’t they? Yet, their enormity still touches the corners of our hearts. God’s sacrificial love held in the offering of His Son so that we might find life, not condemnation.
In the quiet moments, we might wonder... do we truly believe this love? Do we allow it to transform every shadow of fear and doubt hidden within us?
We stand, like Moses, on the sacred ground of God’s grace, continually invited to believe, to open our hearts — despite our reluctance — to His unending mercy.
Perhaps today, we can take one small step... to rest in the knowledge that we are invited into a divine embrace where nothing is wasted. Maybe this means choosing to see forgiveness where it seems impossible or extending peace to a weary soul.
As this day unfolds, let us carry within ourselves that blessing of the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These are not just words but a promise of presence — a love that surrounds us and calls us to life.
May we find moments of stillness today, amidst the noise, where we hear whisperings of His love... and let it fill all the quiet spaces within us. Amen.
