Today’s reflection

We all have those moments... the ones where life feels overwhelming, and the weight of it presses down upon us. It's as if we're standing at the edge of an enormous sea... unsure of what lies beneath the surface... perhaps feeling unworthy... or just worn thin.

These quiet burdens we carry, whether whispered fears or lingering regrets... they can make us feel so small, so alone.

In this state, we recognize the opening of today's reading from Isaiah, where the veil between the divine and the human momentarily lifts. Isaiah's vision of the Lord seated upon a high and lofty throne... charged with glory, accompanied by angelic voices... seems overwhelming indeed.

Yet there's Isaiah... standing in awe at the enormity of it all, feeling the tremor of his own unworthiness. Can we not relate to his cry, 'Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips... '? How often have we found ourselves gazing inward, reminded of our own fragility...

But... listen to what happens next, as a seraph touches Isaiah's lips with a burning ember, proclaiming his purification. In this fiery moment, his own fear is transformed... into willing surrender. 'Here I am,' he responds. 'Send me.' The act of grace, transforming fear, asking only for Isaiah's openness.

And then we turn to Matthew's Gospel, where Jesus gently teaches his disciples... and us... that no disciple is above the teacher. He acknowledges the reality of the burdens we face, yet reassures us... saying, 'Do not be afraid of them.'

Here is wisdom: the invitation to trust that we are seen, intimately, by the One who knows even the number of hairs on our head. Our vulnerability becomes the offering... allowing our true worth to rest not in the approval or judgment of others, but in the eyes of God.

There is a tenderness in knowing that God treasures the sparrows, small and seemingly insignificant... and yet, even more, treasures each of us.

So, let's enter into the quiet spaces of our own life... the shadowy parts that we hold back, perhaps out of fear..., and allow the gentle touch of God's grace to renew and strengthen us.

In our own corners of the world, what would change if we truly lived without fear... grounded in the knowledge of God's deep love and care?

Today, I invite you to find one small way to release that fear..., to acknowledge where God is calling you to step forward and say, 'Here I am, send me.' Whether in your family, workplace, or a silent prayer offered for another... trust in the quiet unfolding of what God desires to do through you.

May you find peace today, carried in the tender assurance that you are seen and loved wholly, as you are.

And may this day unfold softly before you, infused with the knowledge that nothing is hidden from God's loving gaze. Amen.
