Stephen was the first Christian martyr, stoned to death for proclaiming Christ. As he died, he saw the heavens open. He prayed for his killers — including Saul of Tarsus, the future St. Paul.

Christmas Time
We are in Christmas Time — the Church wears white.
The Church celebrates the Incarnation: the Word made flesh, and the mystery of divine light breaking into the world. Today, though, the Church sets that aside and wears red — for the feast of Stephen the First Martyr.
