February
A short month that turns a corner. February opens with the light of Candlemas, keeps Our Lady of Lourdes and the Chair of St. Peter — and most years, Ash Wednesday arrives to begin the long road of Lent.
February’s great days are Presentation of the Lord (Feb 2), and Chair of Saint Peter the Apostle (Feb 22).

Keeping February at home
Candlemas falls forty days after Christmas — many parishes bless the year’s candles, and families light one at home as a last echo of the Nativity’s light. St. Blaise follows the next day, with the blessing of throats.
In most years Lent begins this month. Ash Wednesday opens forty days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving — a good moment to choose, as a household, one small thing to give up and one good thing to take on.
