March
March belongs to Lent. The violet weeks carry two great lights — St. Joseph and the Annunciation of the Lord — and St. Patrick between, as the Church walks steadily toward Holy Week.
March’s great days are Joseph Spouse of Mary (Mar 19), Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord (Mar 21), and Easter Sunday (Mar 28).

Keeping March at home
St. Joseph’s feast brings a welcome break in the Lenten fast. Many families set a St. Joseph’s table of breads and sweets — the old Italian custom of feeding the hungry in thanksgiving — and Irish households keep St. Patrick a few days before.
The Annunciation, nine months before Christmas, turns the heart back to the Incarnation even in Lent. The rest of the month is for the Lenten works: a little more prayer, a simpler table, and quiet generosity.
