Lorica Of Saint Patrick

devotional
The prayer

Today I rise, empowered by the great strength invoked in the Trinity, through my faith in the Three and my acknowledgment of the One — the Creator of all that exists. This day I rise through the strength of Christ’s birth and His baptism, through the power of His crucifixion and burial, through the might of His resurrection and ascension, and through the strength of His return for the final judgment. Today I rise with the strength of cherubic love, in the obedience of angels, in the service of archangels, filled with hope for resurrection and its reward, supported by the prayers of patriarchs, the teachings of apostles, the faith of confessors, the purity of virgins, and the actions of the righteous. I rise today through heaven's strength; the light of the sun, the brilliance of fire, the swiftness of lightning, the rapidity of the wind, the vastness of the sea, the solidity of the earth, and the steadfastness of the rock. I rise today with God’s strength guiding me; His might sustaining me, His wisdom leading me, His eye watching over me, His ear listening to me, His word speaking through me, His hand protecting me, His path laid before me, His shield safeguarding me, and His armies saving me from the traps of the evil one, from the temptations of sin, and from all who wish me harm, whether near or far, alone or in a crowd. I call upon these forces to stand between me and all evil, against every harsh power that threatens my body and soul, against the incantations of false prophets, against the wicked ways of paganism, against the errors of heretics, against the deceit of idolatry, against the sorcery of women, blacksmiths, and magicians, and against any knowledge that corrupts both body and soul. Christ, protect me today from poison, from fire, from drowning, and from injury, that I may be rewarded abundantly. With me is Christ, before me Christ, behind me Christ, within me Christ, beneath me Christ, above me Christ, on my right Christ, on my left Christ, when I lie down and when I sit down, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of every person who speaks of me, Christ in the eye that sees me, Christ in the ear that hears me. Today I rise through the great strength of the invocation of the Trinity, through my belief in the Three, through my confession of the One, the Creator of all creation.
